The club celebrates its first anniversary: 10 years since it was founded in the Shoemakers Guild on 15, November. Additionally, Dänni Hug, the most famous and greatest player of his time, became the first Captain of FC Basel. |

Behind the Young Boys (Bern), FC Basel is in second place in the "Central Switzerland" group and thereby reaches its highest classification to date, since 1893. The Championship was contested by 14 teams, in 3 groups. In the "Central Switzerland Group" FC Basel, Old Boys Basel, Fortuna Basel as well as Excelsior and three other “City Clubs” participated in the Championship. The victor of this group was the Young Boys (Bern), who took part in the Final against the FC Zurich. FC Zurich won and became Champions. |

The year 1896 saw two club President changes. Roland Geldner, the founding President, resigned and Emanuel Scheiss replaced him. In the same year, he passed this burden on to Charlie Volderauer. In 1897 FC Basel Membership figures reached for the first time 100 (37 active, 63 passive). |

At this stage, there were not yet Championships, but many Friendly / Test Matches. As well, on 31st of October the Board of Trustees resolved in a board meeting to carry out regular "comfortable Beer Evenings". On the 18th June FC Basel took its first away match abroad to Strasbourg, France. They lost 0:8.

On the 15th November, Roland Geldner, Ferdinand Isler, Jean Grieder and Emil Abderhalden become the founding members of FC Basel 1893. These men are both rowers and gymnasts. They choose red and blue as the club colours, due to the fact that Basel rowing club also has these as their club colours.
