FC Basel 1893 is very happy to present their new head coach Marcel Koller as well as his coaching staff.
Koller´s coaching career started in the season of 1997/1998 at FC Wil 1900. In January 1999 Koller moved to FC St. Gallen 1897, where he won the Swiss league in the 1999/2000 season. For his impressive achievement he was awarded the title “Coach of the year”. In 2002 Koller signed for Grasshoppers Club Zurich where he won the Swiss league again (season of 2002/2003).
After leaving Grasshoppers Club Zurich, Marcel Koller moved to Germany where he held the position of head coach at 1. FC Köln and then VfL Bochum. He impressively promoted Bochum to the Bundesliga where they stayed for 3 consecutive seasons.
Marcell Koller made a name for himself in Austria, where he was responsible for the national team between November 2011 to October 2017. For the 1st time since 1998 Austria qualified for a major competition; the Euros of 2016, hosted in France.
FCB- Sporting director Marco Streller commented on his club´s new head coach: „We are happy to have signed the experienced Marcel Koller and his assistants who will be responsible to get FCB back on track on an national and international level.”
