8.08pm: After warming up before the final fixture of the season, the players make their way back into the changing rooms. Ur Fischer has decided on the following line up: Vaclik; Lang, Suchy, Akanji, Traoré; Xhaka, Zuffi; Elyounoussi, Delgado, Steffen, Doumbia.

 

8.20pm: The teams return onto the pitch.

8.23pm: Bernhard Heusler grabs the mic and says his good bye to Marc Janko, Markus Hoffman and Urs Fischer. All players and staff members are on the pitch and applause the departing players/staff.

8.30pm: Ref Fedayi San kicks off the final fixture.

 

8.32pm: Doumia tries his luck, challenging St. Gallen Keeper Dejan Stajanovic.

 

8.45pm: GOAAAALL!!! Seydou Doumbia! The Ivory Coast international scored with his head! 14th minute, top goal scorer of the league!

 

8:55pm: What a free kick! GOAL! Danijel Aleksic; 1:1.

 

9:06pm: Two chances for FCB: Doumbia fails to score another header from close distance, then Mathías Delgado just misses the target from a few feet away from goal.

 

9:09pm: Steffen hits the crossbar!

 

9:15pm: Half time, an exciting first half comes to an end. FCB was the more dangerous team. Current score 1:1.

9:31pm: The 2nd half kicks off.

 

9:43pm: Boris Babic only has Vaclik to beat, but fails.

 

9:44pm: Renato Steffen scores; 2:1! Assist by Mohamed Elyounoussis. FC Basel have now scored 90 goals this season; best goal statistic since season 2009/2010.

 

9:56pm: Basel´s “Muttenzerkurve” start a Choreography, invade the pitch and thank president Bernhard Heusler with a banner “Chapeau Bärni!”. A friendly pitch invasion ends 10 minutes later, friendly and safely. The fixture was interrupted but continues after a short delay. The “Muttenzerkurve” display another banner: “It started with a pitch invasion and it ends with a pitch invasion”.. referring to the incident of 2006.

 

10:06pm: Basel hits the bar/post for the 3rd time this evening. Yet again… it was Steffen who tried a belter from a distance. he hit the post.

 

10:12pm: Seydou Doumbia scores his 20th goal of the season., 3:1 for FCB. 91 goals this season. No other team has ever scored as many goals.

 

10:17pm: 7 minutes of added time to be played and Marc Janko is substituted onto the pitch. Seconds later “The Cobra” scores 4:1!!!!

 

10:23pm: The season 2016/2017 is over, FCB has won the league for the 20th time and scored a total of 92 goals (90 goals in season 2009/2010) and as well as 86 points (85 points in season 2003/2004). Two new club records.

10:29pm: Basel´s currrent as well as legendary players line up on the pitch, preparing to say good bye to FCB´s departing management committee. Birkir Bjarnason, Scott Chipperfield, Massimo Ceccaroni, Franco Costanzo, David Degen, Philipp Degen, Breel Embolo, Fabian Frei, Christian Giménez, Benjamin Huggel, Oliver Kreuzer, Julio Hernán Rossi, Xherdan Shaqiri, Yann Sommer, Murat Yakin, Hakan Yakin, Granit Xhaka, Reto Zanni and Marco Zwyssig as well as the new Sports Director Marco Streller. Even Roger Feferer was there to say good bye.

 

10.43pm: The departing board members step onto the pitch; Bernhard Heusler, Adrian Knup, Georg Heitz, Stephan Werthmüller and René Kamm.

10:54pm: The podium is set up and the players make their way to receive the trophy. All palyers are called upon individually via PA system and receive a medal.

 

11:03pm: Captain Matías Delgado stepped up to receive his medal as the final player and raised the trophy into the sky. The players make their way around the ground, celebrating with the crowd. The evening is coming to an end. Tomorrow the city will celebrate their heroes with a big party in the center of town.
