The 21-year-old central defender Jasper van der Werff has joined FCB on loan from Austrian champions FC Red Bull Salzburg. He signed a one and a half year deal with Rotblau. On Thursday morning, January 9th, 2020, van der Werff met up with his new teammates at FCB´s training camp in Spain.
Jasper van der Werff worked his way through the ranks at FC St. Gallen 1879; He played his way through all junior levels before making the leap into the first team in spring 2018. In the summer of 2018, the Swiss under-21 international moved to FC Red Bull Salzburg in Austria.
FCB sports director Ruedi Zbinden commented on the new signing: «I am very happy that we were able to sign Jasper, a promising young talent for FCB. We already observed him during his time at FC St. Gallen and we were very impressed. He´s great with one-on-ones, a real fighter. He is dynamic central defender who masters the game very well. »
Van der Werff is happy about his move to Basel: "I am very happy to be at FCB and hope that I can do my part to achieve the club's goals."
